Groshart leads Titans to 45-14 blowout win over Cabrillo

LOMPOC, Calif. - Cabrillo hosted Nipomo in the teams second game of the season Friday night.

Nipomo entered the game with a 17-14 home win against Santa Ynez last week.

The Titans defeated the Conquistadors 37-21 last year at home and have won three consecutive games against them.

Junior quarterback Brayden Groshart threw three touchdown passes to lead Nipomo to a 45-14 victory.

On the opening drive for Nipomo, Groshart on fourth down ran nine yards to keep the Titan drive alive. On another fourth down, Keyshawn Pu’a ran for a 10-yard touchdown to open the scoring.

On the next Cabrillo possession, quarterback Jackson Anderson’s pass was intercepted by Wyatt Omohundro to end the drive. Omohundro picked off a pass from Anderson in 2017 at Nipomo.

Nipomo took advantage of the Cabrillo turnover as it resulted in a 28-yard Ronaldo Flores field goal.

There was no more scoring in the first as the Titans took a 10-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Cabrillo running back Tito Miza ran a 12-yard rushing touchdown to score the first Conquistador points of the year.

Nipomo responds, after a 34-yard run from Carmelo Hernandez, Ricky Iniguez gets in the endzone with a 4-yard touchdown.

Midway in the quarter, Pu’a runs his way into the endzone for a 35-yard strike to score his second touchdown of the night and extend the Nipomo lead to 24-6.

On the next Nipomo drive, a 48-yard field goal attempt was called back on an illegal substitution that forced the Titans to punt.

After Cabrillo’s third straight punt, Groshart fired a 60-yard touchdown to Omohundro.

Late in the half, Groshart connected with freshman Nathan Reese for a 20-yard touchdown reception.

That ended the scoring in the first half. Nipomo took a 38-6 lead into the intermission.

Early in the third quarter, a Flores 44-yard field goal missed as Cabrillo took over.

Nipomo scored again midway in the third, Groshart finds Reese again, this time for a 42-yard touchdown to make it 45-6.

Reeses touchdown would end the scoring in the third quarter.

Early in the fourth, Tito Miza r into the endzone for his second touchdown of the game. Two point conversion was good on the catch from Eddy Little to make it 45-14.

Mizas touchdown would end the scoring.

With the victory, Nipomo is 2-0 for the first time in school history.

Groshart passed 197 yards and three touchdowns with 17 completed passes on 27 attempts. Groshart also ran 45 yards on four carries.

Pu’a ran for 38 yards on three attempts with a pair of touchdowns.

Reese’s two catches for 62 yards were both touchdown receptions.

With the victory, Nipomo is 2-0 for the first time in school history.

With the victory, Nipomo improved to 2-0 and have won their first two games in school history.

The Titans will play another non-league schedule game next week against Golden West at home.

The division four Trailblazers will enter Friday with a 1-1 record.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
