Course Information
PE Course 1 Physical Education Course 1 is designed to provide physical activity that promotes fitness, wellness, movement skills and knowledge, social interaction and development, self-image, self realizations, and the opportunity to reach individual excellence. The focus is on the Skill Related Components of Fitness and how they relate to different activities. Students have an opportunity to discover, apply, and improve these skills in a variety of activities. Students also discover how their own individual skill strengths and weaknesses affect their performance in, and enjoyment of different activities. |

PE Course 2 Physical Education Course 2 provides students with the tools necessary to maintain health promoting levels of physical fitness throughout their lives. Students in Course 2 are expected to actively participate in and develop skill, rule, and strategy proficiency in a variety of activities with an understanding of their effects on fitness. Students are expected to learn, and apply, research based concepts that affect personal fitness in each of the five Health Related Components of Fitness (HRCOF) including various techniques of measurement and evaluation and the minimum requirements of each in order to maintain and enhance health and fitness. Students will also work to achieve and/or maintain health promoting levels of physical fitness. |

Performance PE Performance Physical Education is intended for students serious and dedicated to achieving an advanced level of fitness beyond the Fitnessgram healthy fitness zone requirements. The course is designed using a functional training model to develop muscular strength, power, core strength, stability, mobility, speed, agility and quickness, as well as decreasing the risk of injury. This is a non-recreational course which demands a strong work ethic and is designed for the student who desires to perform at the highest level. Students will be placed in a class to meet their sport-specific needs if they are a participant in CIF sports offered through the NHS athletics department. |

Athletics: Students enrolled in Performance PE are able to use this time to attend practices and competitions with their coaches who are available during 6th period. |
Independent Study PE (CTE and AVID Only) The Nipomo High School Independent Study Physical Education course will help students feel empowered as they create a personalized health and fitness program for themselves, along with learning the components of fitness. Throughout the course, students will: Participate in pre and post fitness assessments: 2-3 times a semester; Set Individualized goals; Create a workout log that caters to your fitness level, your goals, interests, and schedules; Practice applying proper training principles and techniques; Continually monitor and evaluate progress; Complete additional assignments, discussions, and quizzes |
