Other Gate Offerings

At Nipomo High School gifted and talented students can participate in AP classes as well as other GATE offerings. The following clubs/activities/awards are just a few of the things GATE students at NHS choose to participate in.

National Merit Scholarship Program
The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)–a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.4 million entrants each year–and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.

Mock Trial
Mock Trial is an academic competition, conducted nationally by the Constitutional Rights Foundation and locally by the SLO County Mock Trial Committee and the SLO County Office of Education. Students take on the roles of Pretrial, Defense, and Prosecution Attorneys, Witnesses, Bailiff, and Clerk. The team is coached by attorneys David Warren, Nancy Warren, Jacquelyn Frederick, and teacher coach Donna Kandel. The county Mock Trial competition is held in the SLO County Courthouse in late January or early February.

California Golden Boys State
Boys State is a summer leadership and citizenship programs sponsored by The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary for high school students between their junior and senior years. Boys and Girls State programs are held in each of the U.S. states (excluding Hawaii), usually on a college campus within that state.

Girls State
Girls State is a week-long summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary for female high school students between their junior and senior years. Delegates receive practical training in the processes of self government and good citizenship as practiced in our democratic society. These young leaders set up their own city, county, and state governments, as well as join a political party that most closely aligns with their own beliefs.

Nipomo Titan Robotics Club
The Nipomo Titan Robotics Club was made with the goal to bring a new experience to the Nipomo High School campus. Not only are we here to build robots and compete with them, we are here to build skills in a field that involves science and math. Members meet every Friday after school from 3-4:30 in Mr. Gracia's room.
