Boo!
Many students may be planning on dressing up Friday, 10/31/25 for Halloween. Please remember that all costumes must be compliant with the Lucia Mar Unified School District dress code and must not be a safety hazard. An individual's identity cannot be concealed. No costume masks are allowed. No imitation weapons are allowed no matter how “fake” they may look.
The following guidelines which apply to all regular school activities will also apply to Halloween costumes:
1. Clothing, jewelry, and personal items shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which is vulgar, lewd, obscene, profane, or sexually suggestive or which promotes the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other illegal activity.
2. Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times.
3. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments. See-through tops and bare abdomens are prohibited.
Also, in choosing a costume, please keep in mind that the District seeks to maintain an educational environment which is free of discrimination or harassment based on protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, color, religion, disability, sex, gender, etc. in compliance with District policy. Please use good judgment and do not choose a costume which may be deemed offensive by other students or staff based on any of these protected characteristics. If you have any questions about whether your choice of costume would be compliant with the District’s nondiscrimination policies, please ask administration or counselors.
Costumes which are deemed by site administration to violate these rules will not be permitted and the individual will be directed to remove the costume and change into school appropriate clothing.
