The 2020 NHS Poetry Out Loud winner is Toireasa-Marie O'Rourke. She will be competing at the SLO County Competition on Friday, Feb 7th. Check Mr. Shields's door for more info.

 

Attention Juniors, are you interested in taking the SAT during the school day?  Do you have weekend obligations or transportation issues that would keep you from being able to participate in a regular Saturday SAT administration? NHS has a great opportunity to help you to get ready for college: the SAT School Day, Wednesday, March 25th.  Please check your student email to register and for payment instructions. Please see Mrs. M&M in the counseling office with any questions. Payment and registration MUST be completed no later than Friday, February 14th."

Clubs / Classes

 

Attention all those interested in board games and card games. The Magic the Gathering Club is meeting in Mr. Deichler's room 134 to nerd out and play some games. See you there.

 

Key Club meets today in Room 102!

 

The UNICEF Club meets today and every Tuesday in room 109 at lunch. Please stop by, everyone is welcome.

 

Chess and Pizza-name a more iconic duo! Chess Club is starting up again and we’ve received a donation of several new competition chess sets. To celebrate, we’ll have pizza for those who sign up to come TODAY, February 4th at lunch in Room 146.  Look outside room 146 for instructions.

Which do you like better, Panda Express or Chipotle? Well you don’t have to choose because we will be having a fundraiser at both places on the same day! HOSA is a new chapter at NHS for students who want to be further health professionals and learn about the medical field and how to provide quality health care to all people. The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 8th. You can go to Panda Express in Santa Maria ALL DAY or Chipolte between 4:00 and 8:00 pm. Make sure to mention that you are here to support NHS HOSA.
 




Seniors

 Please join us in congratulating Eric Ahler and Santino Diaz who won grad night tickets, and Dani Vazquez who won a professional photoshoot. How you ask?  They completed their FAFSA & college financial aid at one of our Cash 4 College Nights hosted by NHS & Cal-SOAP. Please mark your calendar for the upcoming Cash 4 College nights on February 18, 19 & 20 from 4-8pm in the Library.

 

Community Service

 

Be sure to get your community service hours documented! Not sure what opportunities are out there? See Mrs. O in the Career Center at break, lunch, or after school. All of these local nonprofits need volunteers and you need the hours. It's a win-win!
