General

Grand Canyon University is a premier, private Christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona. GCU offers over 100 majors, and is best know for their Nursing, Business and Teaching Degree Majors and Programs. A representative from Grand Canyon Univ. will be giving a presentation on Wednesday, 10/16 during 5th period in the Forum. Presentation passes and a sign-up sheet will be available in the library. He will also be out on the quad at lunch that day...stop by and say hello.

A Representative from the U.S. Navy will be here on Thursday, 10/17 during 5th period in the library computer lab. Come hear about all of the wonderful opportunities the Navy has to offer, including tuition and scholarships for college.
A sign-up sheet and presentation passes are available in the library.

Students!
Cuesta College will be offering a class at Nipomo High School called "Introduction to Workplace Readiness." The class begins Monday, October 21st, and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 - 5:30 in the Forum. The class is free, and will focus on preparing for and keeping a job. It will give students 3 college credits and 10 (count 'em, TEN) high school credits. The class will last nine weeks. See your counselor if you are interested in the class, or show up to the first class session on Monday, October 21st.

Students! Good news!
Adult Education classes (also called Night School) are returning to Nipomo High School. Classes will be from 3:00 - 5:00 in the library computer lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays, taught by Mr. Carson. See your counselor to sign up, or show up the first day.
This is a great opportunity to make up credits conveniently right here at Nipomo High School.

Clubs and Classes

Sophomores -
All sophomores will be taking the PSAT Test on Wednesday morning. Rosters and room assignments are posted at the Activities Office (outside window) and Olympic Hall.
Sophomores should report directly to the class they will be testing in. Don't forget to bring a calculator.

Juniors -
If you are taking the PSAT on Wednesday morning, please report directly to the Forum 1st period.

Our FFA chapter officer leadership team spent the weekend developing their leadership skills at the "Chapter Officer Leadership Conference" in Hollister, CA. During the weekend activities, Nipomo FFA's officers were recognized as the officer team with the "Best Attitude" and NHS FFA was announced as the "Chapter of the Year" for the South Coast Region (46 schools). We are so proud of our kids!!!

On behalf of the Advisors, please help us celebrate their success. Chapter officers include: Kasey Lorance (President), Trevor Autry (Vice President), Marissa Santoyo (Secretary), Ashley Jimenez (Reporter), Conner Vernon (Treasurer), Anna Farmer (Sentinel) and Sam Farao (Historian).


FIDM meets today in Ms. Toshach’s room, 40A, at lunch. Come check it out if you are interested in fashion and design.

There will be a mandatory meeting for French Club members. We will be discussing events for the coming week…DO NOT MISS this meeting! There will be no potluck. New members are always welcome.

Hey Titans! It’s that time of the year again! The Renaissance Pool Party is here – time to have fun in the sun with your friends while you enjoy some good food! It will be held on Friday October 18th from lunch through 6th period for all Renaissance members.

Community Service Opportunities

The Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce is looking for students to work at the Chamber Clam Chowder booth, which includes serving customers and handling food. Shifts are 9:30-1:00 or 1:00-5:30 on Saturday & Sunday, October 20th & 21st. Shifts fill up fast, so hurry and contact Gina at Splash Cafe: 773-0539.

Community Service opportunity: Volunteer trail builders needed at Montaña De Oro State Park- (Oates Peak) see a NHS Conservation Club member, Mr. 'O' or meet at the Ranch House above Spooner’s Cove; 9:00am October 20, 2013 Sunday. Tools provided with snacks and beverages afterwards.

Hey ladies! Do you like water polo? Then come out to the pool deck during lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 15th. There will be an informational meeting for anyone who wants to play this season. Hope to see you there!
